Message from the President

We live in an era where communication takes many forms, yet it is time to reconsider the value of in person exchange. While the exchange of people and goods continues to expand, and interactions across national borders are now seamless through various systems, whether in politics, economy, culture, art, or information--what makes it worthwhile to spend hours or even days traveling to learn in a new place? I believe it is because such experiences allow us to engage our five senses--seeing colors, feeling shapes, smelling scents--in a way that transforms learning from a flat, two-dimensional interaction into a vivid, three-dimensional experience. The knowledge gained in this way becomes deeply ingrained, leading to unforgettable moments that can transform lives and inspire new values.

Yamaguchi, home to our university, is a region that faces many of Japan's most pressing issues, such as an aging population. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes and the serene charm of traditional Japan, Yamaguchi offers an ideal environment to explore what it means to be Japanese. Through interactions with the warm-hearted local residents and our friendly students, you will find a welcoming, home-like atmosphere that can turn Yamaguchi into your second home.

Whether our students travel abroad, or you come to Yamaguchi from overseas, these exchanges will enrich each person with experiences that will leave a lasting imprint on their lives. By meeting new people and encountering different experiences, you will have the chance to create a story that only you can tell. It is said that to write such a story, it is essential to grow and to give your best effort not just for yourself, but also for others. So, think of others, love yourself, and embark on a journey to create your own unique story.
